IN ROUND 8 of the Geelong Region Women’s Division 1 competition, ladder leaders Geelong Rangers came away with another big win, defeating Deakin Ducks 7-1 in cold and windy conditions at Myers Reserve on Saturday.

Lara Heric scored a hat-trick and Ally Van Dalen scored a double for their side, while Zoe Tizard and Dani Mandic both scored singles for the rampant Rangers. Deakin’s only goalscorer was not submitted by the club.

Rangers currently sit two points clear at the top of the Division 1 table, while Deakin have slipped to 4th spot with 10 points.

Second placed Barwon SC visited Kardinia College on Saturday and took the three points home after defeating the home side 1-2 in an extremely close game.

Stephanie Cameron scored the only goal for Kardinia. However, it wasn’t enough to continue on from their good result last week as goals from Jessica Kenyon and Briahna Telford ensured that Barwon won the game.

Nonetheless it was a sensational performance by the bottom side which is improving each week.

The Bell Park-Drysdale game was postponed earlier at Bell Park’s request. The match has been rescheduled for late July.

Following the completion of Round 8, Barwon sits in 2nd position on the table, four points ahead of third placed Drysdale, which has a game in hand, while Deakin makes up the top four.

Surf Coast was forced to sit out with the BYE.
