The single division of the GRFC Women’s league last year has expanded to a two division format in 2016, with Division One to contain six teams, while Division Two will have at least eight and possibly a ninth team, with the late likely inclusion of a new Bell Park SC team.

The increase in popularity of the Women’s game comes on the back of Geelong Galaxy United fielding a team in this year’s newly created eight team WNPL competition.

The teams that have entered the GRFC Women’s Division 1 competition include last year’s Grand Final winners Barwon SC, the losing Grand Finalists Surfside Waves, minor premiers Kardinia International College, Deakin Ducks FC, Drysdale SC and Geelong SC.

New teams entering the Women’s competition include North Geelong Warriors and Golden Plains who will both part take in the Division 2 competition, while Drysdale will make a comeback to senior Women’s football after a one year absence with a side in Division 1 level.

The remaining Division 2 teams include last year’s Division 1 teams Corio Bay, Barwon Heads and Surf Coast, while Deakin Ducks, Surfside and Barwon will all be fielding second teams.

Breakwater Eagles is the only club that has not fielded a side from last year’s competition.

Round 1 of the new season will be played on Saturday April 9th and will see the following fixtures in Division 1:

Drysdale v Barwon

Kardinia v Surfside

Deakin v Geelong SC

All games will kick off at 3pm.
