NEWS: Only two games this weekend in Women’s Div 1 comp

ONLY two games will be played this weekend in Round 15 of the Geelong Region Women’s Division 1 competition with both matches to be played on Saturday afternoon. In the earlier fixture, kicking off at 1pm, second placed Deakin Ducks will host competition frontrunners Geelong Rangers in the top of the table showdown at the Deakin University Sports Precinct in Waurn Ponds.

Currently on 28 points, the Rangers lead the Ducks by five points with the added bonus of having a game in hand.

Mick Opperman’s players took part in a midweek game under lights on the new synthetic pitch at the Leisuretime Sports Precinct, preparing them well for Saturday’s clash on the synthetic pitch at Deakin.

With the Rangers leading 8-1 mid way through the second half, the game was abandoned after Bell Park wasn’t able to field the required minimum number of players on the pitch due to injuries.

With Football Federation Victoria investigating the game, at this stage it’s not known whether the score will stand or if a different course of action will be required.

In the other Round 15 fixture on Saturday, a resurgent Kardinia College will host third placed Barwon SC at its Bell Post Hill campus at 3pm.

With Barwon the equal amount of points as the Ducks, albeit having played an extra game, the Blue and Whites will be extra keen to come away from Bell Post Hill with all three points in tow.

Fourth placed Drysdale, 5th placed Bell Park and bottom side Surf Coast all have the weekend off with the bye.
