NEWS: GRFC Women’s Division 1 Round 7 review

DRYSDALE SC defeated Kardinia International College 4-2 in the GRFC Women’s Division 1 Match of the Round to maintain its narrow two point buffer at the top of the competition standings, following the completion of Round 7 matches played last weekend.

The high scoring affair at Howard Glover Reserve saw Serena Clapp score a second half double to take her season’s tally to 11 goals. Nicole Carter and Louise Riley chipped in with singles apiece for the ladder leaders, while Bella Murphy-Bowen and Ashlee Stavenuiter were the individual scorers for the visitors.

The win sees Drysdale remain in top spot with 19 points and an astounding goal difference of +27, while Kardinia props up the top four with 12 points, despite the loss to Drysdale.

Second placed Deakin Ducks remains in striking distance of the competition frontrunners, courtesy of an emphatic 5-0 shlacking of 6th placed Surfside Waves at Deakin University’s Waurn Ponds campus.

The League’s current Golden Boot, Hannah Gordon, notched up yet another impressive hat-trick to take her season tally to 17 goals from just seven matches, while Imogen Pratt was the other goalscorer for the Duckettes, bagging a brace in the one sided affair.

In other games, Barwon easily accounted for bottom side Geelong SC at Stead Park by winning 5-0 thanks to a double each from Michaela Buchanan and Briahna Telford, while Francesca Ciuffetelli scored the only goal of the game and her 7th for the season to give 3rd placed Surf Coast a valuable 1-0 win away to Barwon Heads.
