NEWS: GRFC Women’s Division 1 - Round 7 PREVIEW

FOURTH placed Kardinia College will be aiming to bridge the gap between itself and runaway GRFC Women’s Division 1 leader Drysdale SC when the two sides meet in the pick of Round 7 action at Howard Glover Reserve on Saturday afternoon.

Kardinia trails the competition’s pacesetters by four points and a win would put the Students in the box seat to launch a serious assault on the Bellarine side. In order to do so, Kardinia’s defenders will need to keep the shackles on Drysdale’s red hot strikers, Serena Clapp and Shannon Daffy, who have each scored 9 goals this season.

Second placed Deakin Ducks will be eagerly waiting in the wings to capitalise on any Drysdale stumble, when they host 5th placed Surfside Waves at Deakin’s Top Fields in Waurn Ponds on Saturday.

Hannah Gordon has been in scintillating form for the Duckettes, bagging 12 goals from just five games, and will be looking to add to her tally against the Waves who have struggled to achieve any real consistency so far this season.

Playing in the elite Women’s division after gaining promotion from Division 2 last year, Surf Coast has been a revelation and finds itself sitting pretty in third spot. Mariela Pocklington’s Coasters will be looking to cement their position in the top three when they travel to Village Park to take on fellow newly promoted side Barwon Heads, who are in second last spot and are yet to win a game this year.

Finally, to complete Round 7, bottom side Geelong SC hosts 6th placed Barwon SC at Stead Park on Saturday at 3pm.
