In a closely fought battle worthy of the two teams’ lofty positions on the ladder, the Waves came out 1-0 victors courtesy of the only goal of the game by Grace Cotter, who got on the end of a cross from Alexis Pearson and hammered it into the net for the winner.

Drysdale visited Grovedale Reserve to take on Barwon and come away with a well deserved 3-2 win. Starting with just 10 players, Shannon Daffy managed to score early to put Drysdale in the lead. Despite three Drysdale reinforcements arriving shortly afterwards, Barwon’s Liana Banjanin scored a brace to put the home side up 2-1.

In the second half, however, Drysdale’s Kathryn Deller and Giselle Harris scored a goal apiece for Drysdale to seal the three points for the visitors.

In a very one sided game between Deakin Ducks and Geelong at Stead Park, Deakin totally annihilated the home side and won 10-0. For the second time in a row that the two teams have met, Deakin has won by 10 goals.

Madeleine Lee Gow led Deakin to victory with a spectacular six goal haul to put her one behind current Golden Boot leader Serena Clapp from Drysdale. Brittany Patafio netted a brace after half time, which was also followed by singles from Christie Merry and Andrea Thornton.

Looking towards this weekend’s Round 17 action, Kardinia will host Barwon at Kardinia College on Saturday at 1pm, Deakin Ducks will host Surfside Waves at Deakin University on Saturday at 3pm, while Drysdale will take on Geelong at Howard Glover Reserve on Saturday at 3pm.
