NEWS: GRFC Men's Masters' Division - Round 3 Report

Round Three of the GRFC Men’s Masters’ League saw Bell Park put six goals past Corio within the opening 45 minutes of the game which was called off at half time, due to injuries to an already undermanned Corio outfit.

Due to injuries in the first half to Corio who started the match off with just ten men, both sides agreed to keep the result as 6-0 and not play the second half. Goal scorers for the undefeated Bell Park side included Rocky Caruso who netted four goals, while Peter Bruno and Daniel Knowles with singles apiece.

Bell Park maintains its position at the top of the table with three wins from three games, while Corio are firmly anchored to the bottom of the ladder with three losses from their opening three games.

At Village Park in Barwon Heads, Barwon visited the home side that ended in a 4-2 result in favor of the home team. The lone scorer for the visiting side was Colin Drain, who scored a brace. On the other side of the pitch, Michael Sheriden and Daniel Hume both got doubles each to seal the win for the Hammerheads.

Drysdale and Elcho Park played out their second clash in as many rounds, this time at the Cardinals’ Elcho Park pitch in Lara. The game ended in a spectacular 8-4 win for Elcho Park.

Former Socceroo and A League star Josip Skoko pulled the strings for the Cardinals in the middle of the park while Geelong’s legendare 77-year-old Everitt Nelson starred in goals for Drysdale, despite conceding eight goals.

The two teams played an extraordinary game with Dean Wearne nearly pulling off one of the most amazing world-class bicycle kicks seen at a local level. His well connected effort slammed against the upright.

At the other end of the field, the Cardinals slammed three late goals to run out 8-4 winners, courtesy of a hat-trick from Ivan Herceg, doubles by Tonci Prusac and Jozo Boras while midfielder James Sacco also got amongst the goals, scoring a single. Drysdale’s goalscorer included Murray Buchanan with a brace, while Ali Davys and Dean Wearne scored singles apiece.

Looking to this upcoming weekend’s games there is one Friday night game between Barwon Heads and Drysdale which will kick off at 7.30pm at Village Park, while on Sunday Bell Park and Barwon will face off against each other at Batesford and Corio will host the Elcho Park Cardinals at Hume Reserve. Both games kick off at 3pm.
