NEWS: Geelong gets six new accredited refs for 2016 season
THE Geelong Referees Branch’s membership numbers will be better off for six new accredited members, following the completion of an FFV Referees’ Course in Melbourne earlier this month.

Amongst the newly accredited referees who participated in the Level 4 course at Parade College in Bundoora on Saturday 5th of September were six individuals from Geelong – five of them teenagers!
James Dat, Ethan Parkhill, Ethan Quin, Kai Vincent and father and son duo, Bill and Jake Vasilevski.
Dat and Vincent are both aged 14 years, while Parkhill, Quin and Jake Vasilevski are all 13 years of age, ensuring a fresh new batch of young referees will be patrolling the football pitches in the Geelong region in season 2016.
According to the FFV Referees Manager, Luke Brennan, this year has seen an 80% increase in the number of Level 4 courses held across the state and a 63% increase in the number of people undertaking the course.
“While we are pleased with this growth, we now want to support these new referees in their development and ensure we keep them involved in the game for many years to come,” said Brennan.
“It’s fantastic to see more referees from the Geelong region getting involved in refereeing. The Geelong region is a fast growing area and we want to ensure we have high performing referees appointed to all matches.
“With our greater investment in refereeing, I hope clubs will see this investment in match day performance in the coming seasons”.
In a further boost to local refereeing stocks, it was announced this week by the FFV Referees Department that a new Level 4 course has been scheduled for budding Geelong referees on Saturday 12th of March 2016.
It is the first time a course of its kind has been finalised and scheduled before the current season has even concluded, further adding to the anticipation that the local Geelong Referees’ branch is expecting record member numbers in 2016.
In order to attend the Level 4 course, participants must first complete the pre requisite laws of the game online course, which can be accessed at:

Interested participants are urged to firstly complete the online ‘Laws of the Game’ component which will, upon successful completion, be registered with the FFV Referees’ Department.
