MG Plasterers SECBL Round 1 Preview
Basketball is back! The South East Coast’s premier basketball competition returns to action tonight, featuring a slate of intriguing match ups showcasing our growing junior talent and many Mount Gambier Pioneers players.
In the women’s division, Our MG MATCH OF THE WEEK, features Winter champions the Millicent Cats, led by Pioneers women’s captain Jasmine Howe, against a strengthened Panthers unit including Howe’s protégé and explosive young gun Joey Jones.
In the other the match up, The exciting young Bullroos, loaded with junior talent, battle against a Cougars side keen to reverse their fortunes with Emily Dawe and boom new recruit Sophie Miles.
On the men’s side, Defending champions Bulldogs led by Grand final MVP Todd Reid and league legend Simon Berkefeld begin their title defense against an improved Cougars unit, including 50 point phenom Toby de Wit and Pioneers point guard Kane de Wit. Millicent Cats host Panthers in what will be a good match up for the experienced Cats against Panther backcourt stalwarts Kyle Tipene and Brad Rathjen. Whilst the young Joeys (Roos), led by Pioneers captain Tom Daly will take up the challenge against a hungry young Millicent Saints squad.
