Limestone Coast Basketball - Round 2

LIMESTONE COAST BASKETBALL.

RESULTS ROUND 2

January 16th and 17th 2021.

Mount Gambier was the host of the second weekend of games for the Limestone Coast Basketball Competition, a newly formed senior competition motivated by the constraints of COVID to give associations an opportunity to play high level senior games.

The mens and womens Mount Gambier Lakers sides had similar results finishing the weekend with 2 wins and a loss, with neither side able to over come Millicent.

Women’s head coach Bryan Green identifying some key areas for his side to work on, ‘It was a weekend of contrasting fortunes, we had a couple of good wins and a loss, we need to quickly improve our defensive pressure and rebounding.’

Olivia Wormald was back in action for the Lakers and was a key performer for her side and her efforts did not go unnoticed by her coach, ‘Liv in her first competitive hit out for awhile was great at both ends of the floor, rebounded well and was a threat offensively.’

Bryan was also impressed with youngster Sarah Ritter, ‘Ritz also had a great weekend, she played some good defence and is always a threat on the offensive end.’

The Men’s side enjoyed a comfortable win over Keith in the afternoon before their grudge match with Millicent, a game that was largely controlled by Mount Gambier Pioneer legend Erik Burdon who was representing Millicent in this contest.

Lakers player Braiden Ousey found plenty of positives out of the weekend, ‘It was good to get back into the swing of things, we tried some different things that we will be able to execute better on the final weekend.’

While there were positives the Lakers side was not satisfied and will be looking to improve, ‘We had some sluggish starts and that was part of our issue against Millicent, we need to be more switched on from the start.’

Braiden had some high praise for some of his fellow teammates, ‘Toby de Wit played well off the bench and was a good scoring option, Kyle’s (Tipene) defence and leadership really helped us while Sam Stafford and Duncan were reliable all weekend.’

The competition will wrap up with finals on the weekend of February 20th and 21st in Millicent.
