Basketball Junior Grand Final day once again held on a Sunday was full of some fantastic games in front of plenty of friends and family.

The day tipped off with the U14 Girls Blue and Gold divisions, the blue division Storm completed a dream finals run to overcome the Sparks in a tight contest, while the Flames, who called on interim Coach Sam Griffith to replace outgoing coach Amanda Frost for their finals run, cruised to a comfortable win over the top placed Fire in the gold division.

U12 Boys and U14 boys Gold were next, the U12 blue division Warriors managed a three-point win over the Phoenix Infront of packed stands on court 2, the high scoring Hunters were too much for the Braves in the U12 Boys Gold division. In one of the games of the day a Harry Wright put back on the buzzer gave his Kings a two-point victory over the Jets in the U14 Boys game.

The mighty Under Girls took the court next and it was the Diamonds proving too strong for the Spirit, the U16 boys and girls’ games was the first ‘club’ basketball action of the day. U16 Girls saw the Panthers facing off with the Cougars, the Panthers winning by 12 points, Alyssa Duncan of the Panthers (29 points) and Sarah Ritter of the Cougars (27 points) starred for their respective teams. The Panthers would also win the U16 boys Division 1, with a five-point victory over the Bulldogs. Jake Walker of the Panthers leading his team with 19 points.

The U16 D2 boys Panthers and Roos would play Infront of a packed and vocal court three, the Panthers were too much for the Roos with a comfortable thirteen-point win.

To finish the day the U18 Men Panther verse Bulldogs would provide the game of the day, an over time classic that the Panthers would take by six points. Oli Thomson of the Panthers led all scorers with 22 points.

Individual awards were also part of the day U16 girls MVP went to Sarah Ritter of the Cougars who is a promising junior that has recently represented SA Country, U16 boys MVP was Panther player Jake Walker another recent SA Country representative.

U18 dual MVP’s were Duncan Reid and Tobi de Wit, both are starting to develop into stars of the MG Plasterers SECBL competition.
