THE UNOFFICIAL MATCH REPORT
Another magic day for footy. So many people are enjoying travelling to the different grounds and relishing the post match hospitality- gotta say I’m a bit doughy today.
Anybody who thought it might be an easy 2 points to Ranges at Kyancutta yesterday were way off the mark. Ranges got them (the 2 points) in the end but they were made to work hard.
In contrast to the round one game it was an open contest and I think the Storm hit the scoreboard first in all 4 quarters; 2 goals early in the 3rd quarter reduced the margin to single figures and it happened again in the last before Ranges regrouped eventually winning 13.15 (93) to 8.8 (52)
Corey Waters was outstanding for the Storm, the onballer finishing with 4 goals from what seemed like about 50 touches, brother Brandon was pretty good too, and Sugarcane Grocke did a great job to pretty much ruck for the entirety of the game - I’m guessing Sugar’s PIN number would be 786255329 or RUNALLDAY.
Throw a couple of Rolls Royces like Jessie Stringer and Jake Bruce into the midfield and sit Ty McKenna in front of goal and it will be a whole different ball game. Can’t wait for the round 11 clash at Wudinna on the 17th July.
Ranges had 9 individual goalscorers and many good players; Sean Seeley was great rebounding from deep defence, Hank Burton is going from strength to strength, Rhyce Beinke, Dean Storic (would love to see a photo of his mark of the year contender) Adze Hurrell and the “J” Kenny’s were all in the thick of it.
What a difference 48 hours makes, Henry Zwar went from being picked in the B’s to being a late withdrawal, then from boundary umpiring the Senior Colts to Central Umpiring the Senior Colts - he was replaced in the selected B Grade side by Nails O’Brien - not many can say they made their club debut at 43 going on 44.
With Ranges having a host of experienced players like Matt Beinke, Joel Nield, Kane Schubert and Nathan Gillings all playing well the Storm’s backlines were under more pressure than the drivers seat of a Robbie Bruce Livestock - Western Star.......(when Dwayno Nottle is at the wheel).
Ranges included Jake Stutley who returned from Ceduna where he was the keynote speaker at the Jenny Craig Convention - maybe that’s why he was throwing his weight around a bit, although I think the more likely scenario is that little brother Bartholemew was getting under his skin.
Ranges went on to win 11.12 (78) to 0.1 (1)
The Senior Colts promised to be a close contest and at half time there was only a goal in it, but it was a different story in the second half. Bailey Joseph, Jake Mullins and Jacob Ryans influence on the game waned and from nowhere Ranges kicked 7 unanswered second half goals to win 11.13 (79) to 3.8 (26)
Daley Beard was a great inclusion for the Storm, his run and aerial skills were very much to the fore.
Best for Ranges were Harry Reynolds, who did an excellent job of directing traffic and bringing others into the game, Louie Schubert (2 goals), Kobi Dolling, Tex Price and Kale Roberts. Lochie Elleway is a work in progress but his 4 goals might be a glimpse of things to come.
The win however was somewhat soured by a serious knee injury to Jackson Allen, who’d just kicked his second goal and looked set for a bag of 6 or 7. We wish him well.
Is there any more evenly matched teams in Australia than the Storm and Ranges C Grade Netballers. Back on the 17th of April (Round 1) they drew 44 all....and yesterday they drew 43 all.
