THE UNOFFICIAL MATCH REPORT
Congratulations
to the League on their programming prowess, huge crowds were the order of the day(s)
On Saturday It was hard to find a park in Kimba; hasn’t been that many 4 wheel drives in the one place since the last great Vandy reunion.
Many would have been expecting a close result but in reality the game was well and truly over at half-time (10 goals to 1); Final Scores - Kimba 21.12 d Ports 3.6
Sam Haskett did the damage early, the games first 2 goals and an elaborate tourniquet to the head both testament to that. It’s high praise indeed when the 3 wise men of Tiger Town (RO’D, SF & MH) have you in their best.
What price Team 6 in the auction? Chelsea Woolford is a gun and Ben Clements goes okay.
Well done Ryley Maitland and Jordy McCallum the football and netball ANZAC Medallist’s.
Five years on and wow, just wow!!
The packed club for presentations was a sight to behold.
I’m undecided on who should have been the guest of honour - maybe Kevin Costner, he would only have had to utter six immortal words “build it and they will come”.
Or perhaps Johnny Nash whose 1972 hit lyrics in part say
I can see clearly now the rain is gone. I can see all obstacles in my way.
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind.
It's gonna be a bright (bright) Bright (bright) sunshiny day.
Vision and hindsight, a couple of handy commodities - Kelly Richardson (and others) you nailed it.
The Cats turned up with more imports than Taiwan.
Probably the reason the District Council stationed a Border Force at the turn off to the Weir.
There was no way aliens were going to get past elected members Phil Cameron, Robert Quinn, Greg Cook or Grant Fennell. There is a pretty sharp trio amongst that lot.
It might explain the onesie “creature” captured yabbying at the weir (see photo). Could it have been Pikey Deer? I didn’t see him at the footy.
A lack lustre opening quarter saw Ranges trailing the visitors 2.0 to 3.2 and at the break they copped a deserved pasting from coach Puggy Jenner. They responded limiting Cowell to just single goals in the second and last terms. Final scores Ranges 14.11 (95) d Cowell 5.4 (34).
Greg Parkes was always going to be an asset, his vision and use of the ball is exemplary.
Reagan Taheny showed what he can do, his aerial skills, ability to recover at ground level and goal sense will likely earn him a permanent spot in the A Grade.
Riley Haines presented front and centre time and time again.
Lachy Shambrook’s fitness edge came to the fore the longer the game went providing options coming out defence, traversing through the midfield and going forward.
Matt Golding was a touch unlucky not to bag a couple more goals on top of his very handy 3.
And Dusty Harris, he embodied the ANZAC spirit to a T and was fittingly awarded the medal.
Congratulations
also to Lauren Simes who was awarded the netball ANZAC medal.
The games were well umpired with the boundary throw-ins a feature, although 4th umpire Dave Gray occasionally disagreed.
For Cowell..clearly we didn’t see the best of Nick DeJonge a couple of seasons ago and what a weapon Mitch Schwert has, benefiting from the goal square clearance rule his kick-ins have the potential to land on the wing with monotonous regularity
