THE Lexton Plains Football League has sanctioned a Carngham-Linton player over an off-field incident which resulted in an opposing football coach being hospitalised.
Rokewood-Corindha p playing coach Tom Mullane-Grant suffered minor head and facial injuries at Ballarat bar Side by Side early Monday morning.
The LPFL released details of the sanctions, which were framed after discussions with Carngham-Linton, late yesterday.
The sanctions include:
* The player serve a two-week on-field playing suspension in the club's first two home and away games next season. This penalty will be entered into his tribunal history and registered as "misconduct".
* Together with other Carngham-Linton club officials, he meet with Rokewood-Corindhap officials and Mullane-Grant to personally apologise for the actions and consequences of the incident.
Carngham-Linton has also agreed to:
* Strengthen its existing code of conduct to address the responsibilities of players, officials and members on where they may bring the club and/or LPFL into disrepute, even outside the club environment; and
* Look to have the player, along with other players and officials, attend appropriate sanctioned courses (including the impact of binge drinking) at the earliest opportunity before or during the 2010 season.
In a statement, the LPFL said Carngham-Linton was a "professional, proud, successful and family-orientated football club with a proud history" that was a "very highly-regarded and important member'' of the league.
The league also commended the Saints on their "swift and decisive action'' in ensuring the club understood that "violent and aggressive behaviour will not be tolerated in any, shape or form".
Acting on legal advice, The Courier has not named the sanctioned player.
