The Collingwood Basketball Association (‘the Club’) is delighted to announce the development of a new multisport stadium at Collingwood College.

On Saturday, 6 May 2017, the Hon Richard Wynne, Minister for Planning and member for Richmond, visited Collingwood College to announce the Andrews Labor Government had fully funded the $8.3M development as part of the 2017 Victorian State Budget.

The development will see three indoor basketball courts built, including a show court with capacity for 250 spectators.

Club President Caroline Dever said the Club was thrilled to have gained a new home for 1,200 plus players. “The Club and Collingwood College have been campaigning for this development for over a decade. This is a momentous day not just for the Club and Collingwood College, but more broadly for the local community, families and children.”

“The Club wishes to particularly thank the Hon Richard Wynne who has been a strong, vocal supporter of this development, and been instrumental in securing full funding from the Andrews Labor Government”.

“The new stadium will provide an opportunity for more children, including those from refugee and migrant families who live nearby, to gain the benefits of sport and involvement in a local club. Our community will strengthen through having a new home for our club and being able to offer even more opportunities for players and their families” said the Chair of the Stadium Committee, Chris Walton.

“There are many people to thank. We have worked closely with Collingwood College, especially the Principal, Dale Perichon and School President, Cath Smith and Basketball Victoria, who have lobbied for this development. We have also received tremendous support from several parents, especially Sally Jeavons. The City of Yarra has also provided its support for the development,” said Ms Dever.
