Pacific Games basketball competition commences

The Pacific Games basketball program has got underway with the first womens games completed.  Tahiti women and Papua New Guinea women took wins over Samoa and Fiji women respectively.  At Vallee du Tir court, the Tahitian girls showed they are real contenders for the gold medal with a comprehensive 66 to 48 win over a very determined Samoa team.

Alizee Lefrance led all scorers with 31 points, while Maea Lextreyt contributed 14.  Best for Samoa from the field was Karli Tuia with 11 points.
