TWENTY-two year old Eava Lamond will carry some of Trukai Invincibles hopes as they aim to turn around the SP Super Series tournament in their favour.
The fast finishing batsman from Kira Kira A grade club has been labeled by team coach Serua Loa as one his secret weapons to steer the team to the one day finals in four weeks time.
“Eava, Mahuru Dai, Wala Vala, Alfred Amini and Ovia brothers Seia and John will be the players I will count on when the Invincibles are in deep waters,” said a confident Loa.
Lamond had a promising twenty/20 series scoring 18 in round two, 30 in round three and 18 again in the playoffs.
Last Sunday the right handed batsman blasted 29 balls to contribute to their convincing 48 run victory over Telikom Titans.
“Its really good to start off the one day series on a win and it also gives us batsman lot more confident to make good runs and at same time its lifting our morale to play competitive cricket every Sunday and help our side make the finals,” a positive Lamond said.
Loa has also expressed confident in his young powerhouse hitter saying Lamond is in great form.
“Eava’s playing good cricket at the moment and supporting his senior players very well which he showed against Telikom Titans last Sunday.
“When we lost three quick wickets in the opening overs Eava came on and helped Mahuru Dai put in some runs to get us back into the game.
“And after he was gone his skipper John (Ovia) along with Mahuru made a 50 run partnership and I knew straight away we were heading for victory.
“I’m also impressed with John’s performance also because he plays good sensible cricket to make sure the team is on the safe side,” Loa said.
Loa also said that regular wicket keeper Arua Uda has been ruled out of their round two match against Steamships Hardware with a boil on the ankle.
“At our recovery session early this week Arua told me he had a boil so he won’t be playing on Sunday so Piki (Ravusiro) will be keeping for us again.
“Also Seia Ovia has got an injury to his wrist and the team manager should find out from the doctors tomorrow if he is okay to play on Sunday,” Loa said.
The Trukai Invincibles and Steamships Hardware match is building up to be a cracker at Colts Grounds with both teams looking to get another win and stay on top the competition ladder.
At Amini Park twenty/20 champions Brian Bell will face Telikom Titans with both side desperate get a win and keep their playoffs hopes alive.
