The rookies of Port Moresby Cricket competition are set to explode and unleash their unknown talents when round one of the SP Super Series one day tournament gets underway on Sunday.
The one day tournament will witness a couple of players from the B grade and U19 divisions playing among the best cricket players in the A grade division.
Kavari cricket club have three of their top cricketers playing the supers series with Arua Leke and Rei Raga playing for Steamships Hardware and Vada Heni playing for Telikom Titans.
Leke and Raga play in the U19 division while Heni plays in the reserve grade.
It is a break through for Leke and Raga who missed out on an opportunity to play in the U19 world cup and have kept their heads high and cool for possible inclusions in representative sides.
Leke a bowler and Raga an opening batsman have featured very well in the U19 divisions with Leke the leading wicket taker with 33 wickets (best bowling 5/11) while Raga has scored 488 runs (high score 84 runs).
Vada a bowler for the Kavari cricket club has taken 35 wickets in the Port Moresby competition with his best bowling figures standing at 7/34.
Brian Bell batsman Sebastian Kone another surprise package plays for Kira Kira Cricket Club’s B grade team and for his hard work in the B division he got a higher calling up the ranks.
Kone has made 703 runs for KCC and his highest score in the B grade this season has been 92 not out.
Kone made his debut for the Brian Bell in their 20/20 grand final match against Telikom Titans and even though he sat on the side lines he was fortunate to be part of the first 20-20 champion team.
The trio at their respective team training on Wednesday afternoon expressed their desire to dawn the national colors and play international cricket aboard one day.
Kone said he was very fortunate to be playing among the best cricketers in the country.
“I’m very thankful to the national selectors for giving me an opportunity to play in the SP super series.
“The series is also a good learning curve for me to improve my cricket skills at that level and at the same time it is a stepping stone in my career,” said an enthusiastic Kone.
Leke and Raga said the SP super series is a tough competition and the most discipline team will be the champion at the end of the day.
“It’s a different atmosphere and feeling altogether because each team has a sponsor and after every match we receive some payments which is good because we are getting paid for the game we love to play,” Leke said.
