Return to Club Training

Our journey back onto the courts just got better yesterday afternoon when we were advised by Basketball Queensland that their Indoor Sports COVID Safe Plan was approved by the Queensland Government allowing us to return more people to the courts.

This means that during Stage 2 of the Queensland Governments Roadmap to Recovery, rather than being limited to 20 people per stadium, basketball associations will be permitted to have 12 players per court if the courts are side by side and 20 people per court in unique spaces (for us this means Court 1 and Court 6). Due to these tight restrictions all players will need to be dropped off for training and parents will not be granted access into the stadium. If this presents an issue for you we ask you to discuss this with your club.

In anticipation of this move Townsville Basketball presented a training plan to the six clubs during the week to allow club teams the ability to return to the courts in our non-contact training phase. Over the weekend or early next week our clubs and coaches will reach out to let you know when your team is returning to the court.

These sessions are for a maximum of 40 minutes and they will be in session times starting on the hour (eg. 4pm, 5pm, 6pm, etc.). Teams will be permitted access to the stadium 10 minutes before their session and must leave within 10 minutes of the end of their session to enable the next team to come in. All participants must also provide their own ball which will be cleaned by the staff at Townsville Basketball before taking the court. These sessions will be restricted to non-contact activities based around shooting, fitness, passing and ball handling only.

We can’t wait to see more smiling faces around the stadium from Monday and look forward to returning to play from the 14th July.

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand.
