Flames sign Ali Ebzery for 2020

The Townsville Flames has secured their first signature for the inaugural NBL1 North with Townsville Fire player Alison Ebzery agreeing to spend her winter in the tropics.

Ebzery has made an impact for the Fire in her debut WNBL season when the opportunities have presented themselves and jumped at the opportunity to continue to develop her basketball in Townsville.

Ebzery was a key player for the Newcastle Hunters in their 2019 Championship Women Title in the Waratah League top scoring with 20 points in the Championship game over the Canberra Nationals.

“I’m really excited to have been offered this opportunity to play in a league bigger and better than the Waratah League. It’s exciting to know that I’ll be getting to match up against higher calibre players week in and week out which will allow me to further develop and grow as a player”, said Ebzery.

“I have been lucky enough to work with coach Luke throughout this past WNBL season and have already seen firsthand his coaching abilities and knowledge. I am really looking forward to learning more from him in the NBL1 season”, she added.

Townsville Flames Head Coach Luke Brennan said, “I am very excited about acquiring Alison Ebzery for the coming season. Alison is a high-quality person whose work ethic and team-first attitude suits the Townsville Flames culture perfectly”.

He added, “She is an elite defender who will cause headaches for opposing wings and is able to attack the basket with explosive speed.”

The Townsville Flames are expected to announce a further two signings next week which Brennan hopes will take them to the next step in 2020 with an NBL1 Championship.
