FLAMES GET A STELLA ADDITION WITH BECK

The Dennis’ Computers – A.Gabrielli Constructions Flames are pleased to announce the signing of St Mary’s University graduate and New Zealand international Stella Beck for the remainder of the 2018 QBL season.

Beck joins the Flames on the back of a stand-out senior season with the Gaels where she averaged 15.8ppg, 6.2rpg and shot an incredible 59% from the field while being named in the West Coast Conference (WCC) All Conference first team. She completed her St Mary’s career with 1439 total points, good for 10th all time at the prestigious University. She completed her college playing career in March when the Gaels lost to New Mexico in the first round of the WNIT, Beck poured in 29 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the loss.

Her addition to an already potent Flames line-up will prove a nightmare for opposition teams in the QBL. Beck has a proven ability at the collegiate and international level in being able to handle the ball, guard multiple positions and score at will in the paint. Her size (6’0”) will be a weapon for the Flames on the wing with her ability to create in the open court and ball screen situations adding another dimension to the league’s best team through six rounds of competition.

Not only did Stella complete an impressive college playing career, she also graduated with a Psychology degree, specialising in Neuroscience and was named to the West Coast Conference All-Academic team for three straight years, including an impressive 3.63 GPA as a senior.

Flames head coach Mike St-Maurice couldn’t hide his delight in the addition of Beck, who was heavily recruited by numerous QBL teams.

“Stella is the perfect addition to our roster at this stage of the season. We had always planned to explore our options given the amount of talent currently in the college system. Stella will play a huge role for this team as we mount a charge at a title in 2018. We’ve had a great start to the season and her addition takes us to another level”.

“She can put the ball on the floor, defend anyone 1 through 4 in this league and from all reports from her New Zealand international team mates is a first-class individual, the kind we want in our program”.

“We were able to secure her signature ahead of a number of QBL & SEABL teams, which is a great endorsement of the program we have built and the professional environment which sets us apart from the rest of the league. We can’t wait to get Stella here on Thursday and get to work”.

Beck will arrive in Townsville on Thursday ahead of the teams clash with the defending champion Brisbane Spartans on Saturday evening.

Tickets are still available to see Stella in action for the first time this Saturday night, reserve your seats now online at www.townsville.basketball.net.au
