Haylee Andrews has committed to the Townsville Flames once again for the 2018 QBL season prior to her departure to the University of Portland in July. Following the departure of Rachael McCully, Andrews will commence the 2018 QBL season as the lead guard in a dynamic Flames line-up where she hopes to build on her career best form of 2017 where she averaged 10.1ppg, 3.1rpg while shooting 47% from the field.

Following her recent success at the U20 national championships where she starred for QLD on their way to a silver medal, Andrews has put her name on the national selection map once again. Her consistently strong play at the QBL level & national championships made her a high priority signing for the Flames in 2018 to form a formidable backcourt with Townsville Fire star Micaela Cocks.

Flames head coach Mike St-Maurice outlined Andrew’s importance to the group in 2018.

“We are going to lean on Haylee in the backcourt until she departs for Portland in July. She had an outstanding season last year & was a consistent scoring punch for us off the bench. The expectations of her now as a starter are raised and we need her to perform at a consistently high level this season”.

“Haylee has demonstrated that she is capable of being an impactful player at the QBL level, she is a strong bodied guard who uses her physical tools very well, she can shoot the ball consistently from the 3 and on multiple occasions last year was able to dictate the outcome of games for us”.

“I believe her time as a development player with the Townsville Fire the past two years has had a really positive impact on her development, the opportunity to learn from international level guards in the daily training environment is unique and Hayley has embraced that”.

Andrew’s echoed her coaches’ sentiments as she gears up for her third QBL season, looking to increase her production from 2017.

“I thought I had a solid year in 2017 and I’m excited to be given the opportunity be a starter this season for the Flames. There are so many good guards in the league and I’m ready for the challenge that will be in front of me in every game. I know it’s going to be tough this year & the expectations are high for me personally, but it’s exciting to be put in this situation and challenged everyday”.

“I’m looking forward to heading to Portland in July, but until then my focus is on helping the Flames win as many games as possible and be in a good position for the playoffs”.

The Flames have kicked off their pre-season in preparation for the 2018 QBL season tip-off on May 4^th against north conference rivals the Mackay Meteorettes.
