The Mother in laws kiss
The 2015 Grand finalist met for the second time in near perfect conditions at Northwood Park today with little wind, cloudy skies and a moment of suspense hanging over the game. Would the Eagles be competitive? Would the Bulldogs sweep all before them.?
Within 2 minutes the ball was end to end but when the Bulldogs dominant forward Dale Stevenson unfortunately got severely shirt fronted (Abbott v Putin style) and was forced from the ground with an ambulance on its way we knew this was game on and both teams were not holding back.
The Eagles were first on the board after the stoppage and impressive all day was Ryan Sullivan who dominated the hard ball gets, whilst Charles Barnes came back with a vengeance. Henry Boon showed some class and Richie Heazlewood fresh off the plane thought he must have still been flying home from Canada as he launched himself over the packs with some friendly fire along the way. (How’s the kidneys Charles?)
For the Doggies Jamie Exeter’s rucking against a GIANT Eagle was impressive and combined with the high marking, long running and straight kicking of Jacob Skye and Sully drove the Bulldogs well into attack. Cooky and Garrett showed some tough hard ball gets whilst Becky and Humey proved to be reliable wise heads in the backline. But without the League’s best spearhead at Full forward the Bulldogs had no clear path to goal and the Eagles made them pay for mistakes.
The final quarter was a thriller with the momentum swinging in favour of the Eagles kicking 3 goals 2 to the Bulldogs 1 goal 4 to draw the game. Probably the first draw between these two proud clubs and a rare one for CAFL. Bring on the rematch.
