The Cook Islands sevens team received first aid supplies and boxes of Powerade to help sustain them during their games on the final two days of the Pacific Mini Games.
During the presentation, Maru Apera, manager of Excil Shipping, said that Reef Shipping and CITC recognise that not only is the sevens team a crowd favourite but also most importantly that “rugby and sport in general, promote healthy lifestyles and a positive environment for the youth of our country to fulfill their potential.”
She added that Reef Shipping considered it a privilege to support Cook Islands sports, The donation and support was their way of giving something back to the community in the Cook Islands. Reef Shipping along with CITC and Excil Shipping wish the Cook Islands Sevens team all the very best at the Pacific Mini Games 2009. “We are behind you to Share the Moments.”
By Tuesday 22nd September 2009 the full team will be here and training will be held at the Titikaveka Sports rugby field.
Okirua says that fitness is at the level he expected and a few in-house workouts will be done. To date the training has been good for the last one and a half months and he expects this team to be medal prospects. Gold would be nice.
Okirua tells future rugby players that if you want to represent your country you have to be committed, have the right attidue and be totally dedicated.
You also have to believe in yourself.
