It was a day to remember for Cook Islands golf as our games team won gold in all four events, men's and women's teams and singles.
Kirk Tutai had some nervous moments with an out of bounds shot and a bogey but he completed a round of 73 to give him a four round total of 278, one ahead of Patrick Fepuleai of Samoa. with 279. Sonny Karati (Cook Islands) also had a total of 279 but was pipped for the silver medal on the first playoff hole.
In the teams event James Herman (299) Kirk Tuati (278), Sonny Karati (279) and Daniel Webb (294) had a total of 849, four clear of Samoa (853) who took silver while Fiji (866) won the bronze.
Young Elmay Viking had a four-round total of 296, tied with Charlotte Navarro (New Caledonia) but Elmay won the third playoff hole to take the gold medal. Leleaga Meredith of Samoa won bronze (299).
The women's team of Alice Pilkington (323), Maara Kenning (318), Tuaine Marsters (325) and Elmay Viking (296) had a total of 928. Silver medalists Samoa scored 940; bronze medalists Taiti scored 953.
Alice, Maara and Tuaine were also in the Cook Islands' silver medal winning golf team at the 1985 mini games held in the Cook Islands.
