Tereapii Tapoki may not have won the gold in the Women’s Discus, but the bronze was a start on our medal chart.
Although Tereapii’s throw of 48.46m was at least 10 metres further than the fourth place-getter, she was surpassed by a winning throw of 53.10m by Ana Po'uhila of Tonga and 50.94m by Margaret Satupai of Samoa. They received the gold and silver respectively.
On the podium, Apii proudly displayed her achievement as the other winners received their medals from Apii Timoti, CEO of Te Aponga Uira, the electricity producer of the Cook Islands.
It was a very proud moment seeing the flag of the Cook Islands being raised alongside that of Tonga and Samoa.
