Pacific Mini Games - Day 1 Results - Tuesday, 22nd September 2009
Under cloudy skies athletes of the Pacific competed at the first day of the Pacific Mini Games. There were four gold medals to be decided today: Women's Javelin, Women's Discus, Men's 3000 metre Steeple Chase and Women's 5000 metre.
Ana Po'uhila was the star of the day with a record-breaking performance in the women's discus. Ana's throw of 53.10 metres was one and a half metres better than the previous record held by her past Tongan team mate Melehifo Uhi who set the record in 2005 in Palau. Ana will now be hoping to continue her dominance in the women's throws when she competes in the shot put and hammer.
On the track Fiji dominated in the men's 100 metres and 400 metres. Niko Verekauta in undoubtedly to take out the triple when he competes in the men's 100 metres, 200 metres and 400 metres.
