Bec Cole Joins The Wildcats

The Eltham Wildcats are thrilled to announce the signing of current WNBL player Bec Cole for the 2017 Big V Season.

Cole, a dynamic scoring guard who has established herself as a star in the WNBL averaged 9 points, 2 rebounds & 3 assists per game in the 2016/17 WNBL season with the Melbourne Boomers. With the ability to play both ends of the court, Head Coach Katrina Hibbert believes she will bolster the Wildcats line up and slot in nicely with the group.

“She is one of the hardest workers on and off the court and has done an amazing job of getting herself back to match fitness after injuries.

“She started to find form in the second half of the WNBL season so we look forward to her development as the Big V season progresses. She will offer some tough match up difficulties for the opposition and also brings leadership and a competitiveness to our group that is hungry for success”.

There is instant chemistry within the team according to Coach Hibbert.

“She [Cole] has played with most of the Eltham girls before in Vic Metro State teams so there is an instant connection amongst the girls. It's going to be a fun and exciting season ahead”.

Cole, a junior from the Nunawading Spectres played SEABL, went to the Australian Institute of Sport, represented Australia (Gems) in the FIBA U19 World Championships and has also played over 100 WNBL games.

Wildcats CEO Greg Jeffers considers the signing a major coup for the club both on & off the court.

“Our club couldn’t be happier to see such a personable and talented individual join our ranks. Her excitement is infectious amongst kids and she will add considerably to the female role models who we are lucky enough to have, which are so important within a sporting organisation.

“Cole will suit up alongside 2015 All Star Olivia Bontempelli, a College returnee in junior Wildcat Simone Ruedin and the core of the team from the past 2-3 seasons. We have a genuine excitement that under the leadership of another junior Wildcat [Katrina Hibbert], we will see a rise from the Wildcats women.” Jeffers stated.

The Wildcats deliberately do not recruit imports and will remain in 2017 as the only club across State Championship or higher to play with all-Australian line-ups.

“We have pride in providing opportunity to our locally developed talent, to provide them with the chance to take responsibility on the court, to be the face of our program in the community and to build consistency in our groups from year to year” added Jeffers.

You can see Bec Cole and our Senior Women in action when they take on the McKinnon Cougars in their home opener on the 25th March; tip off 6:00pm.
