BASKETBALL DEVELOPMENT APPOINTMENT

The North Adelaide Rockets are excited to announce that we have secured the services of Coach Liam Flynn as a Basketball Consultant for the club. Liam has coached or consulted for teams in the NBL, NBA and Europe and holds a Masters Degree in Sports Coaching. Most recently, Liam was an Assistant Coach to one of the biggest clubs in Europe, Hapoel Jerusalem, which competed in the Basketball Champions League. The terms of the consultancy agreement is for 6 months initially, with a view of developing a long term partnership between Coach Liam Flynn and North Adelaide that will continue even when he heads back overseas to coach professionally.

Liam will be tasked with building and developing all aspects of the basketball program at the Rockets including; coach education, club curriculum, high performance, player development, as well as, lower division engagement. He’ll also be assisting in the recruitment of our next full-time basketball employee for the club that will continue to drive these programs forward into the future.

“It’s a magnificent opportunity that Wayne (Schild – Rockets President) has presented me with and one that I am very grateful for, especially during these difficult times in the world” Coach Liam Flynn said on the new partnership with North. “North Adelaide is poised for an exciting future in South Australia basketball. We recognise we’ve got a lot of work to do get where we eventually want to be. But we will accept this challenge with great humility and perseverance. We won’t be skipping steps. This will be a comprehensive process and an engaging one. We value and respect our volunteers and members, and we believe that the deliverables that will be developed over the next few months will provide an even better experience for our players, coaches and families”.

Liam also paid tribute to his former club, the Sturt Sabres. “I want to thank Sturt for 21 amazing years at the club. I’ve been so fortunate that Sturt has provided me with many lifelong friendships and wonderful memories. I came to Sturt as a young aspiring coach and leave now as a club life member. I wish Phil Blake, Marcus Wong and all the people at Sturt the very best in the future.”

Coach Liam Flynn officially starts his consultancy agreement with the North Adelaide Rockets on November 1 though it has been agreed that he will complete his current obligations with Sturt’s Youth League men and U12 boys’ teams. His first tasks will be an audit of the club’s current position, in addition to, managing the selection of our 2021 NBL1 Men’s Head Coach.
