Rockets Women Win 1 and Drop 1 to secure 2nd on the Ladder

On Saturday night, the Rockets were always going to have a tough game, at Mars, against the top team, the undefeated Norwood Flames. They were off to a quick start with a very tall side and the Rockets let them score 21 to 12 in the first quarter.

After a slow start, the second quarter was much better, with a closer margin at half time, just 8 points, 36 to 28.

The starting 5 got things going in the third quarter with much better defence but Rebecca Duke was hard to match up on. Norwood scored well, 64 to 40. As the Rockets didn’t rebound well and struggled against the in form Flames, they lost 78 to 58 in a fight to the finish. Bench players gave their best too and Rockets still remain firmly in second place on the ladder.

Sunday afternoon we congratulated Jo Hill on her 250th game, against Centrals at the Arena. As the Rockets played good defence and moved the ball well, they led at the first break, 24 to 19.

Centrals weren’t to be underestimated however and screened and scored well to challenge the Rockets at half time, 42 to 41. Glad I wasn’t in the change rooms!

The team responded well and Jamie-Lee Peris led the scoring and the lead crept out to 63 to 50. But the Central’s Lions kept pushing and playing hard, and it went down to a nail biting finish, with the North Adelaide Rocket’s Women keeping their cool and demonstrating why they are second with a quiet win of 78 to 76.
