HPTC - Oceania IAAF Scholarship athlete Setefano Mika today set his second Samoa National Record in the space of three days. Competing in the NorthSport Classic Meeting at Sovereign Stadium, the home track of the HPTC - Oceania, Setefano ran 3:58.43 over 1500m. This was the first time that Setefano had run under 4 minutes for 1500m. He sliced over three seconds from the previous National Record. Setefano was feeling the effects of his very fast run on Wednesday night over 800m in Hamilton. He ran with the leaders up until the bell, but tired over the last two hundred meters.
Earlier in the meeting, Moses Kamut was tantalizingly close to breaking the Vanuatu National Record over 400m. He finished third in the race with a time of 47.68 - only 0.04 slower than the National Record. On Wednesday he finished just 0.02 outside his National Record over 200m.
This was the last competition of the calendar year for the scholarship athletes and capped of a wonderful year of record breaking performances. Early next year the scholarship athletes will be straight into competition mode as they prepare for the Commonwealth Games and World Indoor Championship in March and then the Oceania Championships in December.
