It was a busy beginning to the year for me travelling through the night on January 2nd to arrive in Suva, Fiji on the 3rd. I was there to run a course aimed at beginner coaches and coaches that wanted to refresh their skills. It was a pretty full on schedule with the course running for 4 days and coaching of the Junior Development Squad each evening. There was a great response from the coaches attending and from all reports learnt a great deal. After the theory part of the course all coaches then attended the junior academy that had been arranged every morning for 4 days. Then the coaches were able to practice the skills and techniques they had learned previously. At the end of the course all coaches were presented with a certificate and some were also given equipment to take back to their area. It is now hoped that these coaches continue with badminton in their areas as some were from other parts of Fiji which was lacking in organised badminton. I was also kept busy with coaching sessions each afternoon and evening with the development and national squad players. It was great to see so many beginners turning up for the first time to play - all junior participants were also presented with participation certificates. Although I melted under the Fijian heat, it was a very enjoyable time in Fiji, we had great media exposure through out the 2 weeks. Thanks to Lorraine for all her organising.
