Which Harbour reps are playing in the 2023 Sal's NBL?

As promised, in this week’s roundup we have a run down on all the Harbour representatives, past and present, suiting up in the Sal’s NBL in the 2023 season that begins this week.

Starting on our own doorstep the Auckland Tuatara, that play their home games at Eventfinda Stadium, return most of their local players from last year.

That means Rob Loe, Tom Beattie, Charlie Dalton, Chris McIntosh and Reuben Fitzgerald will be hoping to go one better than a runners-up medal in 2022. The Tuatara, who play their first home fixture against the Taranaki Airs at Eventfinda Stadium on Friday April 14th, have announced that Kruz Perrott-Hunt will join the club for his first professional contract.

Kruz has recently completed a successful four year career at the University of South Dakota where he scored over 1,000 points and played in excess of 100 games. The Franklin Bulls have signed Dan Fotu and Matt Freeman. Matt, who has played in Germany for the last three years actually signed for the Bulls for the 2021 season but did not play due to injury.

Denhym Brooke has departed the Bulls after a couple of seasons and moved to the Hawkes Bay to play for the Hawks.

It is yet to be seen how much game time, if any, Jarrod Kenny affords himself as he has taken on the General Manager role with the Hawks. After debuting for the Harbour Heat while still at Westlake Boys Jarrod has played 20 years in the NBL and is the longest serving current player .

Taranaki Airs forward Scott Telfer returns for a second season with the Naki.

2022 Harbour U23 National Championship Grand Finalist Liam Judd has signed with Manawatu Jets.

Also at the Jets is Jackson Stent who has moved north after playing for the Canterbury Rams in 2022.

In the deep south Brayden Inger will suit up for the Southland Sharks for a third successive season.

It is anticipated a couple of other ex-Harbour players will be linking with NBL clubs in the near future.

Penina Davidson put together two immense double-doubles in the opening two rounds of the Australian NBL1 North League. Playing for Cairns Dolphins, as she did in 2022, Penina claimed 21 rebounds and scored 40 points (16/23 FG) in the 98-80 road win at Townsville Flames in the season opener.

Last weekend in Round 2 she amassed 24 points and 19 rebounds as Cairns went down 79-64 to Darwin Salties.

Congratulations to Chris McIntosh who made his 3x3 Tall Blacks debut at the FIBA Asia Cup in Singapore at the weekend. After a successful tournament the Tall Blacks claimed a bronze medal beating China 21-13 in the play-off for third and fourth place.

We would also like to congratulate the Harbour high school teams that claimed medals at last week’s Secondary Schools 3x3 National Championships.

In the pinnacle championships Rosmini College won the Senior Boys Elite title while Westlake Girls finished runner-up in the Senior Girls Elite, runners-up in the Junior Girls Elite and 3rd in the Senior Girls Open.

Also claiming a silver were Takapuna Grammar in the Senior Girls Open competition.

Rosmini also won a bronze medal in the Senior Boys Open Grade with Westlake Boys doing the same in the Junior Boys Open and Rangitoto College in the Junior Girls Elite.
