News of Harbour players on the international and domestic stage

The U17 Women’s National Team, hoping to emulate their male counterparts and secure an U17 World Cup berth have begun the FIBA Asia Championship in Jordan with a win and a loss. Harbour’s Amy Pateman scored 4 points in the win against Korea (80-63) – the second game saw NZ lose 77-57 to Australia.

As with the Men’s Asia Champs the tournament doubles as a World Cup qualifying event with the top four teams in Jordan securing places at the U17 Women’s FIBA World Cup to be played in Spain in July.

The U17’s play Japan on Monday and India on Tuesday with a victory in either game securing that World Cup spot.

Tiarna Clarke and Ella Fotu played at the FIBA 3x3 World Cup in Antwerp Belgium last week.

With a 1-3 record in pool play New Zealand failed to progress to the play-off stages of the tournament.

Playing against world top-10 ranked opponents like USA (#7) and France (#2) will surely hold the team in good stead ahead of the Commonwealth Games in August.

The Tall Blacks head into camp today (Monday) in preparation for their game against the Philippines in front of a sell-out crowd at Eventfinda Stadium on Thursday night.

The squad includes former Harbour stars Corey Webster, Tom Abercrombie, Jarrod Kenny, Kruz Perrott-Hunt, Sam Mennenga and Dan Fotu.

Sam, Kruz, Dan and Taine Murray have also been named in the Tall Black 24-man squad ahead of the 2022 Asia Cup to be played in Indonesia from 12-24 July. The squad will be trimmed to 12 players early next month.

Northern Kāhu play their first Tauihi Basketball Aotearoa home game, against Tokomanawa Queens at Franklin Pool & Leisure Centre on Monday July 4. All other home games will be played at Eventfinda Stadium.

Olivia Berry will play for Northern Kāhu in the upcoming Tauihi Basketball Aotearoa season. Olivia joins other former Harbour reps, Micaela Cocks, Ash Kelman-Poto, Jazz Kailahi-Fulu, Jaycin Tini and Akiene-Tera Reed in the Kāhu lineup.
