Early season news on Harbour players in the States

In the latest news regarding Harbour players on basketball scholarships in the USA James Moors has decided to redshirt this campaign meaning he will not play for Colorado State University this season. Instead he will concentrate on building his fitness and skill base for the 2020-21 season.  

Another former Westlake man Yanni Wetzel had a career best 3 blocks as San Diego State moved to 3-0 for the season with an 86-61 win at Grand Canyon. Having transferred from Vanderbilt, Yanni also secured 6 rebounds to accompany 8 points.

Also recording a career best was Matt Freeman. Yet another Westlaker, Matt had his best game to date for UC Santa Barbara since moving from Oklahoma as he tied career highs in points (15) and rebounds (5) whilst also dishing a career best 7 assists in the Gauchos narrow 82-81 win against Rice University.

Miami’s Sam Waardenburg who came close to a double double as the Canes beat Florida Atlantic 74-60. The former Rangitoto man finished with 9 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists, a block and a steal.

Kruz Perrott-Hunt has scored his first college points as South Dakota Coyotes carried off the Rainbow Classic trophy in Hawaii after recording three straight wins. Kruz had two points and 2 rebounds in the third win (85-82 against Florida A&M) and also had the final say of the game getting a deflection on a shot from a Florida player as he attempted to tie the game as time expired.

In Women’s Division I action Akiene-Tera Reed top scored with 16 points but her Virginia Commonwealth Rams went down 77-55 to top-25 ranked South Florida. It was just the second game back for the 2018 Tall Fern after incurring a hand injury in pre-season training.

William Heather, in just his third outing for Dallas Baptist, scored 10 points (5/8FG) as Dallas made it three straight wins with a 70-56 win against Ouachita Baptist in NCAA Division II action.

Also playing Division II is Chanel Brodeur-Muir who is in her second season at St Thomas Aquinas College, New York. Chanel had 4 points, 3 rebounds and a steal as the Spartans, 4-0 this season, thumped Bloomfield College 96-58. 

Joel Coffey, has made an impressive start to his career at NAIA university Webber International. The seven footer has averaged 5.7 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks in his first seven games. In a recent outing for the Warriors he came close to a triple double with 8 points (4/6FG), 9 rebounds and a career high 7 blocks as Webber beat Trinity College 101-66.
