As we pass the half-way point of the season, footy teams across the west are now turning their attention to the nine remaining games and also finals.
Below we look at how all Division 1 teams are travelling at this stage of the year. We look at the halfway point of last season and compare the clubs to this year.

“In the second half of the year we want to win enough games.
“Overall we want to strengthen our resilience, improve our capacity to better our skills and way of playing and trust one another.”

“We are still work in progress, we have a new forward structure,” coach Marc Bullen said.
“We are sitting second at the half way break and we aren’t pleased with where we are out, but our win-loss record is good enough.
“We have beaten the teams that I would say would potentially play in the finals, but we have lost to the teams at the lower end, which is probably good for the competition.
“We are looking for consistency in the playing group in the second half of the season.”

Coach’s comment:
“It all came down to the game at the weekend, if we win we get to the half-way point of the season at 5-3 and if we lose we are 4-4 and just an average side,” coach Saade Ghazi said.
“If we win, we will be a lot further along then what I thought we would be and if we don’t we haven’t really improved on last year’s win loss ratio.
“We need to be a better outfit, we didn’t play well against Hoppers Crossing, but we beat Deer Park.
“We really need to start matching it with the top two or three teams.”
Werribee Districts

W: 5 L: 3 D: 0
Ladder Position: 5th
Percentage: 140.25%
2016:

Coach’s comment:
“The season has been tough, the competition has got a lot more even,” president Murray Smith said.
“We have a new coach and a new game plan, so we are finding it tough to play 100 per cent our game for the full game.
“The competition is tough, if you are off a little you will get found out.
“Our goal for the second half of the season is to play 100 per cent our game and the results will take care of themselves.”
Hoppers Crossing

W: 5 L: 3 D: 0
Ladder Position: 3rd
Percentage: 150.19%
2016:
W: 7 L: 1 D: 0

Coach’s comment:
“I am pretty happy with the position we are in, but we do have some more improvement in us,” coach Steven Kretiuk said.
“We are hoping to get better in the back half of the year. A lot of players in the team have not played footy together for a long period of time, so they are still getting used to the new game plan and getting used to our style of play.”
St Albans
This time last year:
W: 5 L: 3 D: 0
Ladder Position: 4th
Percentage: 144.70%
2016:
W: 2 L: 6 D: 0

Coach’s comment:
“In all honesty the season so far has been a touch disappointing so far,” coach Fabian Carelli said.
“It’s fair to say we have been more than competitive in most games thus far, but haven’t been quite able to round out and finish the performance.
“Inconsistencies in all areas continue to hamper us as a team which we need to build upon going forward, but it has been a slow build since I walked through the door.
“To me it looks like the comp has gone up a notch from last season, so you need to be ready to go week in - week out to compete at this level.”
Spotswood
This time last year:
W: 6 L: 2 D: 0
Ladder Position: 2nd
Percentage: 99.42%
2016:
W: 5 L: 3 D: 0
Ladder position: 4th
Percentage: 103.9%
Coach’s comment:
“Spotswood’s results have been turbulent,” coach Tom Langlands said.
“The games we thought we would win we have lost and the games we thought we might lose we have won.
“Now we are nearing the halfway point we are feeling positive, we have settled our side.
“We have moved through the period where we had injuries and now we are moving towards the second half of the season.
“We know where we need to be, our direction is clear.”
