THREE-time Hawthorn premiership player Brian Lake knows how to draw a crowd.
That’s what he did on Wednesday afternoon, at his local shopping centre in Caroline Springs, when he announced he would be lining up for the Western Region Football League’s division two side the Lakers in 2016.
It was speculated the champion footballer would join Caroline Springs after retiring from the AFL two weeks ago, but it was made official when the club officially declared Lake would be playing for the club on Wednesday.
“Today is a proud day for our football club,” Caroline Springs’ football director Mark Raak said.
“Today, Brian Lake joins our football club.
“He has 200 games of AFL experience, won three premierships with the Hawthorn Football Club, has a Norm Smith medal, is a two-time All Australian and best and fairest winner at the Western Bulldogs.
“We are a family club and he is a family man.
“It is great to have him on board.”
Lake said he was looking forward to playing in the Western Region Football League next season.
“I live across the road, so there is probably no other choice for me to pick after recent premierships with Hawthorn,” he said.
“It is going to be exciting.
“We have a new coach on board, so everything is looking up for the Caroline Springs Lakers, hopefully we can have a good year next year.”
