THE Werribee Districts have moved to the top of the WRFL Under-19 ladder with a bruising 14-point win against the hardened Yarraville Seddon Eagles under blustery and chilly conditions at Soldiers Reserve.
Werribee controlled the opening minutes of the first quarter, but weren't able to put it on the scoreboard with only three behinds to show early onwards.
On the other hand with great efficiency, Yarraville made the most of their forward forays. At quarter time it was Werribee leading 3.5. (23) to 2.1. (13).
Both sides continued to play a free flowing brand that was fast, skilful and full of flair with quality transition from end to end.
Werribee lead by two majors, but a goal in the dying seconds of the half to Jayden Barlow had the Eagles trailing by a goal at half-time.
The third quarter was filled with pure manic pressure; something normally seen in a Grand Final with the intensity causing both sides to make huge amounts of turnovers.
Werribee broke away midway in the term with the last three goals to lead 7.9. (51) to 4.7. (31) at three quarter time.
The Eagles breathed life back into the contest as they got within two points after slamming three consecutive majors, two from Michael Tsaloukis.
Werribee almost succumbed to the barrage of inside-50s, but they dug deep with Sam Gilliard regaining the lead before Bailey James sealed the deal to place them on top of the ladder.
Werribee's best were Lachlan Rainbow and Joshua Snow whereas Sam Gilliard kicked three goals. For the Eagles, Jordan Robinson was brilliant after half-time, Michael Tsaloukis had a strong game and Leonardo Larizza did not waste a possession.
A last quarter blitz saw Altona defeat Albion 12.13. (85) to 6.5. (41) whilst St Albans received the four points against Newport.
Hoppers Crossing were able to shake off a valiant Wyndham Suns in the last quarter winning 15.7. (97) to 7.5. (47) and Caroline Springs kept the pressure on for fifth place with a crucial 15-point win over Spotswood.
Lastly Wyndhamvale accounted for Albanvale 26.14. (170) to 2.4. (16).
Round 14 will see Albanvale host Werribee Districts whilst Yarraville will aim to bounce back against Spotswood.
The Wyndham Suns and Wyndhamvale will look for local bragging rights and Caroline Springs will look to keep their finals hopes alive when they face Altona.
Hoppers Crossing have the bye as will St Albans and Albion after the two clubs played their Round 14 match before Round 1.
