YARRAVILLE Seddon have finished their near perfect season in the best possible way, by winning the Division 2 Reserves Grand Final against Caroline Springs at Avalon Airport Oval on Sunday.
After losing to the Lakers in the Second Semi-Final just two weeks prior and having to take the long route to the Grand Final, the Eagles were ready to fire from the first bounce. .
It was clear from the start that Caroline Springs were in for a difficult game of footy with the Eagles putting on a lot of pressure on their opponents in the first quarter.
With a lot of intensity around the ball, the Lakers found it hard to move the ball forward, failing to kick a goal in the opening term. However the Eagles managed to kick two goals.
The Eagles continued to dominate in the second quarter as the game was played in Yarraville’s half, as they kicked three goals and kept the Lakers scoreless.
As the second half rolled round and the third quarter began, the competition started to heat up with Caroline Springs began their fightback.
They won the quarter by four goals to three.
It was clear during the fourth quarter that Yarraville Seddon were tiring, as Caroline Springs were managing to get on top.
They were able to keep the Eagles to just two behinds in the last quarter, while kicking two of their own, but the margin was too large.
The final score was, the Yarraville Seddon Eagles 8.11. (59) to Caroline Springs 6.8. (44).
Paul Azar from the Eagles was judged best on ground by the umpires.
Other stand out players for the Eagles include Daniel Fry, Adam Bernhardt, Jack Hargreaves, Ben McCrorey and Jack Lee.
The Eagles goal kickers include Hargreaves, who kicked three majors. Azar, Heath Evans, Jason Cousins, Michael Volpi and Nicholas Fry all kicked one.
Caroline Springs also had some standout players. Anthony Brook, Kane Maschewski, Justin Brook, Glenn Downs and Declan Markovski all played well.
Goal kickers included Aaron King and Michael Saker, who both kicked two each, and Paul Wentworth and Downs, who both kicked one goal each.
