YARRAVILLE Seddon have continued their charge to a finals spot with a 37-point win over Spotswood at McLean Reserve.
Spotswood come out firing to start the game and a set shot goal from Ciaran Lynch gave them the early lead, but the Eagles were able to snag a couple of goals in the windy conditions and led by two points at quarter-time.
Yarraville Seddon added another two goals to start the second quarter before play was stopped due to a Spotswood injury.
Spotswood grabbed two late goals through quick ball movement when play resumed to bring the margin to three points at half-time.
However, the Eagles dominated the match after the main break, kicking five goals and keeping Spotswood scoreless to pick up a comfortable 37-point win.
Brandon Lester had a great game for the Eagles, providing a lot of run with the ball in hand and finishing with two goals while Liam Murray also kicked two.
Darcy Wilson led the way for Spotswood and finished with two goals to his name as well while Haidyn Boothey and Ciaran Lynch played well for the Woodsmen.
Werribee Districts have kept themselves in contention for top spot on the ladder with a hard fought 11-point win over Hoppers Crossing at Hogans Road Reserve.
The Tigers were looking to get their season back on track after a disappointing performance against Yarraville Seddon, but they were caught out against a fast starting Hoppers Crossing team.
The Warriors dominated the first quarter and took a commanding 24-point lead into the first break, but Werribee Districts were able to whittle their way back into the game with a four goal to one second term to trail by just four points at half-time.
A tough and competitive third quarter meant that the Tigers were only able to reduce the margin to three points at the final change, but it was enough as a three goal to one final term gave them yet another fourth quarter come from behind win.
Joel Russell was the standout for the Tigers with four goals while Jack Tessari continues his good season.
Haidyn Shade was Hoppers Crossing’s best on the day and Lochlan McDonald led the scoring with three goals while Brayden Kitchen added two more to his season’s tally.
Deer Park and Altona had the week off with the bye.
Round 17 sees Hoppers Crossing travel to Soldiers Reserve to take on Werribee Districts for the second week in a row.
Yarraville Seddon will host Spotswood at Yarraville Oval while Deer Park will play Altona at John McLeod Reserve.
