THE game we have been waiting for all year has finally arrived after a nail-biting finish in the Division 2 Reserves Preliminary Final at Dempster Park on Saturday.
The Yarraville Seddon Eagles, the best team all season secured their spot in the Grand Final after a goal was kicked after the siren to defeat North Footscray.
It was a dramatic end to the final, with the Eagles’ Grand Final hopes still well and truly alive.
Heading into the match, North Footscray were the underdogs, but hoped they could follow in Caroline Springs’ footsteps and cause another, however ultimately fell short.
Yarraville Seddon were the best team on the day, as they so often were throughout the year, holding onto the lead for most of the match.
North Footscray were trailing by three goals at the main break, but a rev up by the coach at the half-time break was what was needed to fire up the Devils.
They won the third quarter and heading into the final quarter of the game led by a point.
Momentum soon swung in favour of the Eagles in the fourth term as they seemed to control the match, however inaccuracy in-front of goal meant they couldn’t seal the game.
They had 11 scoring shots to the Devils’ four in the final term, but only managed to win the match by a goal after the siren.
Yarraville Seddon’s leading goal kicker Michael Volpi did not disappoint on the day as he kicked five goals, while Paul Azar and Shaun Chapple once again found themselves named in the best players.
North Footscray’s Matthew Walsh kicked six goals for his team, whilst Joshua Mccabe was named in the best.
As the season ends for North Footscray, Yarraville Seddon will be gearing up for the final match of the season, which will be played at Avalon Airport Oval in Werribee at 11.40am on Sunday.
The Lakers will head into the match full of confidence, knowing they defeated the same opponent just two weeks ago by 37-points.
However Yarraville Seddon have sat on top of the ladder for the entire season and have defeated Caroline Springs on three separate occasions in 2016.
It should be a great game of footy.
