The 2009 Belau Games was held from July 17-29, 2009. The Belau Games included Greco Roman on Day 01 (July 17th), Freestyle on Day 02 (July 18th) and Beach Wrestling on Day 03 (July 19th). For the first time ever wrestling included the Schoolboys, Cadets, Junior, and Senior Division for the male wrestlers. Unfortunately, there were not enough entries for women.
The Belau Wrestling Federation (BWF) followed FILA rules and regulations and the tournament was controlled and officiated by BWF. All of the states and teams were provided with the FILA rules and recent changes to the rules. On July 16, 2009, a coaching and referees clinic was held at 9:00am – 12:00pm. A technical meeting with coaches and team leaders were held with the list of final entries being submitted to the organizing committee. The medical / weigh-in’s were conducted in the afternoon.
Among the states that competed this year were Koror, Peleliu, Ngaraard, Ngermlengui, Sonsorol, Ngchesar, Ngardmau and Ngarchelong State. There were lots of competitions and exciting matches during the 3 days of competitions. BWF would like to thank all the teams, athletes, Coaches, Volunteers, families and many of the fans for their support and contributions during the success of these games.
