The 2019 UWW Senior World Championships and first Olympic Qualifier was held in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan from 14-22, 2019. Palau sent 3 wrestlers to compete in their attempt to qualify.
On September 14th, Jarvis Tarkong competed against Demeu Zhadrayev (KAZ) in the Greco Roman weight division but lost in the first period 9-0 to Demeu. Jarvis ranked 25th overall. On September 19th, Jarvis also competed in the mens FS 70kg division against Nicolae Cojocaru (GBR) but lost by technical superiority (10-0). Jarvis ranked 28 out of 30 athletes. On September 19th, Cristian Nicolescu competed in the mens FS 65 weight division against Iszmail Muszukajev (HUN). Cristian was able to score 4 points but lost to Iszmail. Cristian ranked 27 out of 44 athletes. Guy Delumeau Jr., competed against Murad Kuramagomedov (HUN) in the mens FS74kg and scored 2 points on the takedown but it was Murad who would win in the second period of the match by 14-2.
While Palau did not qualify, we were able to give it our very best. Cristian and Guy returned to Japan to train while Blesam remained in Kazakhstan to train for 1 month before going to compete in the U23 World Championships in November at Budapest. Then he will go to Korea to train.
