The Klaibedechakl Camp for boys and girls for all ages and up kicked off on Monday, June 10th at the Palau National Gym from 9:00am – 300pm daily. The 4 day Camp will continue till Thursday, June 13th. The Camp includes 3 sports – Wrestling, Judo and Boxing. There are currently about 25 kids that are involved in the Camp, wanting to learn about the sport, and the camp is really to introduce our kids to the sport and to help sharpen their skills. Hopefully, by day 3 and 4 we’ll get more kids into the camp. Everyone is welcome to attend and we are here to help the teams and their coaches especially in preparations for the upcoming Belau Games that will begin on June 14th – 23rd. The camp was first started in 2018 prior to the Belau Youth Games. We try at least 1 or 2 camps during the summer and hope to include our sports program in the states when they have their programs or camps as well. We want to introduce and expose as many kids to our sport of wrestling, Judo and Boxing as possible. No matter what the age, Wrestling Coach John Tarkong Jr. says anyone can benefit from the camp. We’ll basically open it up to anyone who is interested. Some of the older, more experienced athletes, will spend individual time with the young kids as well. We have certified and experienced coaches for Judo, Boxing and Wrestling and our sport is pretty universal. The coaches include Christopher Kitalong and Omdas Ueki for Boxing and for Judo we have Jennifer Anson. The same moves that we teach work from kindergarten, college and for those competing in international and World competitions, to include the World and Olympic Games.” says the head coach. Through this camp, Kids who participate in the camp can expect more than just running drills and learning new skills, they will have fun and do a bunch of games, grill it out and have as much fun as well as learning the sport.
