Rivals, PPR Shark Attack route foes in IP&E ABL

Team Ngermid Rivals and Palau Pacific Resort (PPR) Shark Attack shared the limelight, Wednesday night, after beating separate foes in the ongoing 2012 season of the IP&E Amateur Basketball League (ABL) at the Palau National gym.

Ngermid Rivals showed dominance in the second quarter to fend off a tough Surangel Kings, 92-73. After taking a 22-18 lead in the opening quarter, the Rivals showed their shooting prowess in the second as they outscored Surangel Kings with a 34-19 output to establish a 56-37 lead.

From there, the Rivals never looked back as they went all the way to score the win. Ody Yalap topscored for the Rivals with 32 points as teammate King Ngiraboi added 27 while Reid Una Rikrik paced Surangel Kings with 22 on the losing end.

On the other hand, PPR Shark Attack showed poise under pressure as they managed to beat the Ididers, 67-65. Down 63-62 in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter Abel hit a three pointer to give the Shark Attacks a 65-63 cushion, but it was short lived as Udui Floriano tied the game at 65-all.

In the dying second of the game Mesikt took matters into his hands as he was fouled and drilled his free throws that placed the dagger into a possible Ididers comeback. Mesikt had 25 for PPR Shark Attack as teammate Byron Andreas added 20.

Madaob Mersai topbilled for the Ididers with 19 while teammate Udui Floriano had 14 on the losing end.

In other games, Aqua Smooth won over B.O.G., 87-57; On Fire blazed down the Ranchers, 71-67; Breakers beat PCC Mesekiu, 74-59; 4x4 Wheelers defeated Airwaves, 85-77; Kabong downed Stingers, 94-92; and Mesang Red Storm whipped the Nationals, 71-46.

Games resume tonight with PPR Shark Attack versus Ngerkesoaol at 6 p.m. followed by the Nationals-PCC Mesekiu tussle at 7:30 p.m. while the Cardinals will meet the Ididers at 9 p.m.

January 23 matches will have Ranchers against Surangel Kings at 6 p.m. as Ikelauans will face the Breakers at 7:30 p.m. while 4x4 Wheelers will be pitted against the Rivals in the main game at 9 p.m.
