Western Union ties league’s best record

Title-contender Western Union sent a strong message that they are the team to watch this season after beating PIA Slashers, 101-92 Sunday in the ongoing 2009 Filipino Basketball League (FBL) at the Palau National gym.

Leading 30-22 in the first canto, Western Union then asserted itself with the lead as they closed the half with a 54-49 lead. From there it was all Western Union as they took the win and tie with defending champion Surangel and Sons in the team standings with a identical 13-3 win-loss records.

Hardworking Jun Bautista asserted his presence again as he led the charge for Western Union with 23 points while Jun Clemenia and Ruben Tecson added 19 markers each.

On the other hand, Erwin Senadre led the Slashers with 25 baskets as they slide down to 10-6.

In other games, J-Trading Jaguars pawed Ilocandia Bulls, 103-74; Palau Nationals drubbed Rangers, 85-64; and Hanpa Cardinals further sink PRA Choppers to the cellar with a 93-76 victory.

Games will resume on August 30 with PRA Choppers versus team Rangers at 11 a.m. followed by the Palau Nationals against PIA Slashers at 12:30 p.m. while Western Union will test Surangel and Sons at 3:30 p.m.

The tournament is supervised by the Palau Basketball Federation (PBF) and sponsored by Pinoy Express and Remittance, WCTC, Aqua Water, Print Zone, PITI, Palau Royal Resort, ATT Bar and Restaurant, CTSI Logistics and Shimbros International
