Meda Boyz, WCC Hammers beat foes in IP&E NBL

Teams Medalaii Meda Boyz and WCC Hammers improved their standings after besting separate foes, Wednesday night in the ongoing 2014 IP&E National Basketball League (NBL) at the Palau National gym.

Despite starting slow, Medalaii Meda Boyz showed consistencies as they manage to fend off a hard fighting Matakui, 86-74. After taking a 22-19 lead in the opening frame, Meda Boyz continued to press on as both teams had a total of 20 points apiece with Meda Boyz taking the lead after the half via 42-39.

From there, Meda Boyz hold on to score the win with RB Dorado leading the way with 28 points while Shonty Ubedei had 18 as Seth Techitong and Oscar Page finished the game with identical 11 markers, respectively.

On the other hand, despite playing with five players Matakui fought hard with Roydan Renguul finishing the game with 24 as teammates Derrick Faustino and Brooks Tkel chipped in 18 and 16 on the losing end.

Meanwhile, WCC Hammers fought their way back as they defeated the Ngermid Rivals, 93-87.

The Hammers were down 23-25 in the opening quarter and were outscored in the second frame of play via 17-24 as they trailed 40-49. However, WCC Hammers managed to regrouped in the third as they unleashed a 25-16 assault to tie the game at 65-all.

Then in the final canto, it was all WCC Hammers as they managed to outscore the Rivals with a 28-22 output to score the win. Anthony Ngirkelau finished the game with 25 as Brandon Harvey and Mike Williams clipped 21 and 20 baskets, in that order.

Marvic Ngchar topscored for the Rivals with 35 while Ody Yalap chipped in 33 but was not enough to fuel a win for their team.

In other games, Surangel Kings won over WCC Hammers, 82-81; and Ngerchemai Ranchers beat the Breakers, 72-67.

Games will resume tonight with Ngermid Rivals versus Ngerchemai Ranchers at 7 p.m.
