Matakui, Rivals beat foes in IP&E ABL

Teams Matakui and Ngermid Rivals will have a reason to celebrate this Holidays as they scored separate victories against foes, Friday night in the 2013-14 season of the IP&E Amateur Basketball League (ABL) at the Palau National gym.

Matakui established a big lead and from there went on to beat Ngiwal 79ers, 84-71. Matakui took hold of the lead early in the game as they established a 32-13 and then closed the first half with a 51-33 advantage.

From there, Matakui sailed smoothly for the win with Al Obrero leading the way with 30 points as teammates Bow and Derrick chipped in 13 and 10 markers, respectively. On the other hand, Hoakin topscored with 20 for Ngiwal 79ers while Carson added 17 on the losing side.

Meanwhile, Ngermid Rivals had lesser problems as they drubbed Hanpa Cardinals, 116-87. Marvic Ngchar led the scoring fray for the Rivals with 30 baskets as King and Elway Ngiraboi tallied 22 and 20, in that order. Michael Bombita and Coco Gonzales finished the game with 28 and 23 for the Cardinals on the losing end.

In other games, Ngarchelong Blue Sharks beat Ididers, 82-79; Idid 4x4 Wheelers won over Raw Surf, 81-76; and Ngaraard Red Torch defeated Meyuns Red Storm, 91-71.

Games will resume on December 26 with Meyuns Red Storm versus Papago Smooth at 6 p.m. followed by the PCC Mesekiu-Ikelauans tussle at 7:30 p.m. while Raw Surf will meet Meda Boys at 9 p.m.

Teams this season, teams are divided into two pools. Pool A will have Papago Smooth, Ngarchelong Blue Shark, Ngaraard Red Torch, Hanpa Cardinals, Surangel Kings, Meyuns Red Storm, Melngoes, Ranchers, Ididers and Ngermid Rivals. Pool B will be composed of MEDA Boys, Matakui, Idid 4x4 Wheelers, Ikelauans, Stingers, Lawmen PEAC, Raw Surf, Breakers, Airwaves and PCC Mesekiu.
