WU renews rivalry with Surangel Stars in FBL

After winning their separate assignments in the play off round, both Western Union and Surangel Stars will get back to the drawing boards as they are set for a collision course, Sunday in the semifinals of the 2013 season of the Filipino Basketball League at the Palau National gym.

It will be renewal of a rivalry for both squads as they are no longer stranger to one another. Game time is set at 2:30 p.m. After winning over the PRA Choppers, Western Union will go out with the aim to return to the finals this year as they will be anchored by Bong Alambra, Dennis Castro, Erwin Senadre, Ronald Magcalas, Janno Toquero, Medel Cuyugan and Gener Aguinaldo.

On the other hand, Surangel Stars, still riding on cloud nine after scoring a huge upset against the Ilocandia Bulls in the play offs, will be led by veterans Arnold Undecimo, Eric Manio, Ryan Tayag, Melvin Parrinas, Ricky Erese, Bong Gayongorza, Sib Reyes, Ador Hilvano with Rodel Flores, Rex De Asis and Dennis Demate.

In the other semifinal’s match, defending champion FR Spoilers will try to even the score with RP Rangers in the opening match at 1 p.m.

Having lost to the Rangers in the opening match of the league, the Spoilers are looking for a pay back as they will have ace scorer Michael Bombita, play maker Coco Gonzales, Mark Pagayan, Lester Mendoza, Aries Echanova, Val Domingo, Gil Lomboy and Francis Tan.

Meanwhile, the Rangers are looking for a repeat performance they had in beating the defending champs as they will rely on the team of brothers Jay and Joemar Naguit, Jun Bautista, Nico Hinoza, Jason Tabuyo, Al Obrero, Mike Guevarra, Mac Fernandez and Cid Aquino.

Winners of the semifinals will move on to the best of three championship series while the losers will battle it out for the consolation game.

Games are supervised by the Palau Basketball Federation (PBF). This year’s FBL League is supported by ATT Bar and Restaurant, HE Automotive, Palasia Hotel, Palau Royal Resort, Surangel and Sons Company, FR Construction, Engrs.
