Spoilers beat Bulls, grabs lead in team standings

Defending champion FR Spoilers took over the top spot of the team standings after beating the hard fighting Ilocandia Bulls, 107-84, Sunday in the ongoing 2013 season of the Filipino Basketball League at the Palau National gym.

The Spoilers were determined to keep their championship hopes alive after taking a 34-30 lead in the opening tip off. Then, they closed the first half with a 16-19 run to make it 50-39.

From there, the Spoilers held on to their lead as they smoothly scored the win with Michael Bombita leading the way finishing with 25 points as teammates Coco Gonzales, Aries Echanova and Lester Mendoza chipped in 27, 15 and 12 markers, respectively.

With the win the Spoilers take the top spot of the team standings with a 9-1 win-loss record while the Bulls suffered their second loss for an 8-2 tally despite the 25 point performance from both Joeger Supnet and Boy Nuqui.

In other games, Western Union beat Hanpa Cardinals, 86-69; RP Rangers won over Surangel Stars, 80-78; and Liquid Skyy bested Nationals, 20-0.

Games will take a break as the tournament will have its All Star Weekend set on June 23 starting at 11 a.m.

Games are supervised by the Palau Basketball Federation (PBF). This year’s FBL League is supported by ATT Bar and Restaurant, HE Automotive, Palasia Hotel, Palau Royal Resort, Surangel and Sons Company, FR Construction, Engrs.
